Mechanical and Thermal Properties of Polymer Blends of Polyvinyl Acetate and Natural Rubber Incorporated with Kaolin
Abstract
The purpose of this research was to study the thermal and mechanical properties of polyvinyl acetate natural rubber blend by adding Kaolin at 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18 and 21 % w/w. Considering the mechanical properties and thermal stability, it showed that the addition of Kaolin had no effect on the reinforcement of the polyvinyl acetate natural rubber blend. The thermal stability test results by TGA showed that the addition of Kaolin increased the thermal stability. However, the thermal stability decreased with increasing amount of Kaolin. Flame retardant test which was tested by using horizontal burning test technique, it was found that adding Kaolin in every ratio had a flame propagation rate of not more than 75 mm/min, which was within the standard. It was concluded that the addition of Kaolin could improve the thermal properties.
